Well junior competitions are back after surviving the pandemic lockdown and it was great to see dual MGGC/Mt Lawley junior member Jordan Jung reign supreme in the Cobra Puma Junior Championship held this week at Wanneroo.
It’s been some months since any competitive golf has taken place, but in the first Junior event since the hiatus, Jordan completed the win in a playoff with Tom Addy, after both tied with 3 over par scores for the 36 hole event.
As reported late last year, Jordan went down to Royal Fremantle’s Hayden Hopewell on the 36th hole at Melville Glades in the 2019 State Amateur, so it was a fitting result, given those circumstances.
MGGC was represented in the State Championships by Josiah Lim and Tommy McSkimming, finishing 32nd and 40th respectively.
Former MGGC Junior Abbie Teasdale won the Junior Girls division by a shot from Clancy Sheridan after a 4 under par second round.
Good luck to MGGC juniors contesting the Gosnells Junior Open today. Tommy, Jordan, Valerie Khuu, Ben Kivelhan, Connor Roberts, Ty Cleland and Ruby Cotton are all entered.
Also great to see Ben Kivelhan, Josiah Lim, Hunter Woodley-Page and Ruby Cotton all registered to be part of the Golf WA Junior Ace development day on July 13.
WA juniors gain an opportunity to display their talent in the hope that their potential can be assessed for future State team selection.
Just a reminder that the MGGC Junior Championships are not too far away and all Junior members are encouraged to nominate for the three round series commencing on Sunday August 9.
This year entry is FREE courtesy of the MGGC members’ sponsorship and entry forms are now available on the website and in the Pro shop.
