Here come the Ladies Club Championship.

Firstly, Huge congrats to our Jubilee Foursomes winning duo Julie Harris-Jones and Tryphena Mitchell. With a winning 35 stableford points, they will be heading to Rockingham Golf Club to proudly represent MGGC in the September 5th State playoff.   Thanks to Tracy Johnson and Robyn Murphy who sponsored this competition. They will present Julie and Tryphena with their Prize at the 2023 Ladies Annual Meeting. And their names will soon be up in “Gold Letters” on the Jubilee Foursomes Winners shield for 2023. Coming in 2 points behind in second place was Helen Constable and Mary St Peters – congrats. Thanks to everyone who competed in this challenging event, and we all wish Julie and Tryphena the best of golfing luck for the golfwa State Playoff.

Now moving on to our main 2023 Event

Congratulations and thanks to our enthusiastic 80 + Lady members who have entered our 2023 Ladies Club Championship. This includes a record breaking 20, 9 Hole Members competing for the 36 Hole Stroke Championship.  So pleased to see you all jumping in and giving it a go.  A special “good on you” to those, who whilst not available for all 4 rounds, have shown great club spirit in paying, donating, their entry fee and supporting the event.  Very much appreciated and fingers crossed for one of the daily prizes.

I’ve put in an order for 4 days of sunny wind free conditions but have your wet weather gear handy.

ROUNDS  1 & 2 – GRADED DRAWS.

Last Thursday, we sorted the Graded Draws for rounds 1 and 2 based on the available daily handicaps.  DON’T PANIC – If your handicap and potentially your “Grade” has changed, or will change, before the first round.  Not a problem and this will be remedied for the seeded rounds 3 and 4.   The idea of a graded draw is to have you play in a similarly handicapped grouping.  Your actual GRADE for all 4 rounds will be in accordance with your Tuesday May 2nd handicap.

Whilst it was a random draw, we did our best to try and limit the number of ride-in carts in each group and not have any “lone walkers”.

As life comes before golf, there may be some late withdrawals or necessary changes, but we will do our best to keep these to a minimum and only if necessary due to pace of play concerns.

Please be at the Tee Box 12 minutes before your tee time and be ready to hit that first fabulous Tee shot on time and hopefully on target.  Please don’t tee off before your tee time as we have reserved a couple of tee slots to help keep groups suitably spaced. This Tuesday, our men’s Division 2 Pennant team is hosting so we will have them teeing off behind us after we have crossed sides.

Please play ready golf and try and keep up with the group in front.  Move off to the next hole in pairs if you need to make up some lost ground.  And like we discussed in detail at last week’s “Rules Discussion”, please play a provisional ball if there is a chance your first ball has gone missing!

If you have any concerns about a Rule or possible Penalty, discuss with your playing/scoring partner and if still uncertain, consult the Pro Shop staff, after completing your round.

A reminder that Caddies are permitted but must comply with all the R & A Caddy rules.

Most importantly, keep on going until that golf ball falls into the hole. Life is too short to get upset about how many strokes it might have taken.  Remember our motto, “Don’t worry, be Happy” which can be challenging at times I know!

And as always, we love an interesting, unusual or humorous story, so please keep us informed of any newsworthy happenings.  But most importantly, good luck and enjoy!

Finally, I would like to wish our division 2 Pennant Ladies the very best of golfing luck as they head to Mount Lawley early next Monday morning for Round 1.  The timing is not great with Club Champs the next day, so thank you for your dedication and commitment to MGGC.  Our 2023 team members are:  Leanne McVey, Helen Constable, Shirley van der Brugghen, Kerrin Thomas, You Ran Han, Anne Hitchen, Lynda Wake, Anne Ward, Nina King and Cheryl Collings.  Alisa Lee was also in the team and good form but has had to withdraw due to an untimely back injury. We wish you a speedy recovery Alisa and we miss you already.  Thanks also to our dedicated group caddies.

That’s all for now.  Cheers and happy golfing.
