Our winter season is almost complete!  Sincere thanks to the “weather gods” for a mild and relatively rain free season allowing us to cruise through our fixtured events.

Since my last blog, we played our 10th and final Stroke Round on Oct 12th.

Congratulations to the talented Grade winners who enjoyed a $40 boost to their Wallet accounts thanks to our Stroke Round sponsor, Rod Webb.

A Grade Nett Winner – Soo Kim – who shot an impressive 72 nett.  First time winner, congrats Soo Kim.

B Grade Nett Winner – Terri-Anne Williams with a sensational Net 69 (she is loving the Stroke Rounds)

C Grade Nett Winner – Michelle Chung with a fabulous Nett 71.

And our 9 Hole Stroke Champ was Jan O’Meara with a stunning return to good form shooting 35 Nett.  Congratulations and enjoy your $20 wallet Prize.

Our big hitting longest “Drivers” were Leanne McVey A Grade (Leanne also posted the best Gross score – an impressive 79 – Classy golf Lea).   Ellen Oliver drilled the longest B Grade Drive and Amanda Wilson outdrove all the C Grade Crew. Maureen Slattery and I took out the NTP prizes on holes 17 and 5 respectively.  And “that’s all folks!”

With all 10 rounds complete, Anne Ward has been working those excel spread sheets to determine the 2023 Putting and Consistency Grade winners.  There were a few variables to consider, due to the Green’s replacement program, so it has been a challenging task.  The winners will be announced/rewarded at our 2023 Ladies Annual Meeting. Sincere thanks to all the Lady Member Sponsors who have already sorted or are in the process of organizing their 2023 Prizes/Awards.

Charity Day – Thurs Oct 19TH – Congrats to Adele and her fund-raising crew for putting on a fabulous “One Club Prostate Cancer Charity Event”.  The final amount raised will be announced by Adele at the LAM, where we will present the cheque to the Harry Perkins Prostate Cancer Research Institute.  Sincere thanks and ‘hats off’ to our Lady members who have, as always, been so incredibly generous and supportive. And with the input and support from our men members, this has truly been an “all in” successful event.

Our 12 Hole Novelty Day played on Nov 2nd was a relaxed, fun fixture and sincere thanks for the way you all embraced the day, particularly the challenge of teeing off from the Blue tees. Playing a “team spirited”’ 4 ball Ambrose was a hoot, as was driving off the 1st tee with the classic “Wooden” club.  Nina King made it look easy, sending her ball flying down the fairway.  Noelene Firth and Cheryl Haines both had “champagne golf” moments. Photo evidence is attached of Cheryl’s “Ball in Tree Trunk” shot – outstanding effort to equal Helen Constable’s Club Champs effort.  And Noelene launched her ball into outer space with a precision drive perfectly into the middle of a Ladies Red Tee marker.  We now understand why many of our men folk don’t make it past the Ladies Tees.

Sincere congrats to the “Winner Grinners” – a 9/18 Hole Member combo of Kerrin Thomas, Tracy Johnson and two new 9 Hole recruits, Jen Collins and Andrea Coupar.  They won by a few strokes and looked splendid in their Wiggles colours. And special congrats to Kerrin for landing her tee shot on the 9th green from the Men’s Blue tees.  The rest of us will just dream on!

And a special mention and thanks to Matt Sturmer for sorting the results using the old-fashioned manual method due to the MiScore system not appreciating our 13 Hole Stroke event! And thanks Dane for the wild Squiggly line on Hole 18, that perfectly accommodated my line and length!   Yeehaa, I won a nice pink hat!

COMING UP – Thursday November 16th. Lady Captain’s 18 Hole & Lady Vice Captain’s 9 Hole Stableford Trophy Day.  Our final shotgun 8am start for this season is a relaxed Stableford format with Trophy’s donated by me for the Best 18 Hole score and Anne Ward, teeing off with the 9 Hole crew, has her Trophy ready to present for the Best 9 Holer.  Would love to see a full field for this event, so jump in and grab a tee spot and please stay for a meal and Presentations if you can.

The following Tuesday Nov 21st is the usual Stableford comp.  It includes an Invitation for 9 Hole members to join the 18 Hole crew and see if they are ready to progress to an 18 Hole membership in 2024.   Just book into an 18 Hole tee time, take extra water and enjoy! Any dramas booking in please let us know.

LADIES ANNUAL MEETING AND TROPHY PRESENTATIONS NOVEMBER 23RD – And that brings us to the Grand Finale – our 2023 LAM.   We kick off at 10am with Trophy presentations and then “open” the meeting.  Awards to be presented include Jubilee Foursomes, 4BBB Matchplay, 2023 Grade Winter Eclectic, Silver Anniversary, Most Improved, GolfWA Silver Spoon, Stroke Consistency and Putting Winners.  More fun than the Logies!

Please make every effort to attend and celebrate with this year’s Award winners and then hear what our 2024 golfing world looks like.   We had discussions with Golf WA and Golf Australia earlier this year and would like to discuss ideas/plans/options moving into season 2024.

Try and stay cool and enjoy the casual summer season.  Be adventurous and take out your least favourite club and give it go!

Our Ladies Summer Eclectic Competition starts on Tuesday November 28th, so keep those Pars and Birdies happening. We will be extending the eclectic competition to include all our women’s competition rounds (including those on the weekend).  So, the more comps you play the better your chances.

Sadly (you beauty), this will probably be my last Captain’s Blog.  I wish our 2024 committee all the best – they will be great.

And……. Don’t Worry, Be Happy. Doesn’t get much better than a golf day at MGGC.
