Division 5 – Nigel Williams
Sunday 15 June Div 5 played Royal Fremantle at Hartfield Country Club.
The Morning was very wet and cold, luckily by our 11.30am tee time the course had time to dry out and the temp rise.
Royal Fremantle fielded a very strong team as always.
We debuted a new player this week in Eamonn Munday. Unfortunately, Eamonn didn’t get the win on debut. By all reports he made one of the best bogeys his caddy has ever seen to halve a hole early in his match. Dean Marsh and Thomas Love were the other two players who went down on the day.
Logan King remains undefeated in his 2nd season with a great comeback to win 1 up on the 18th Great effort Logan.
Jono Hailes got a nice win 3/2. Jono certainly has a soft spot for Hartfield, shooting 3 over in a practice round on Friday and then winning on Sunday. Lucky for his teammates we left before he made his way to the pool table.
Nigel Willams also had a win 3/2. In Mac’s words(Nigel’s son and caddy) “geez you played great today but it’s hard to watch”. I think Nigel’s opponent felt the same way, storming off after he lost. (Edited by James McAuliffe)
This had the score tied 3 and 3
Then there was one, Steve Russell 2 down and 2 to play, things did not look good. He won hole 17 with a clinical par. Down 18 we go. On the par 5 and in the bunker for 3 and his playing partner on the green 10 foot away for 5. The 15 spectators watching knew this bunker shot was make or break. Steve hit it to a foot. His opponent missed the putt and Steve pulled of the impossible stealing the half point leaving the overall match at 3.5 – 3.5
I would like to mention how good it was to be a part of the club when everyone was supporting each other. On the last hole we would have had 15 people supporting Steve. The Fremantle player was all alone with no support. We had all the players and caddies whose matches were finished back out walking and giving moral support, also 2 players from div 6 who had been there since 7am and 3 or 4 members out to watch. It really does not go unnoticed and makes a massive difference.
Next week we travel to Meadow Springs to Play Kwinana
Division 6 – Sunday 15th June – Brad Simms
MGGC vs Mosman Park GC at Hartfield
Round 2 saw the Melville Glades crew head out to Hartfield Country Club, greeted by a bit of early morning drizzle. But by tee time, the skies had cleared and the stage was set for a great day of golf — this week taking on the side from Mosman Park GC.
Despite 100% effort across the board, Mosman Park proved too strong on the day:
- Kavi Lasrado gave it everything in a gritty contest but couldn’t quite get over the line.
- Nick Middleton delivered another composed and confident performance, with a massive 6+5 win. Well done Nick.
- Jordan Middleton backed up his dad in style, securing a well-earned 2+1 win of his own — a top father-and-son combo effort.
- Curt Nicole fought hard throughout but couldn’t swing the result his way.
- Eamonn G-H, giving his opponent four shots, dug deep and came away with a gutsy half point for the team. Great effort from Eamonn.
- Brad Simms fought hard all day but just didn’t have his best stuff when required today.
- Jessy Lee battled away in a tight match but ultimately came off second best.
While the final score line read 2½ – 4½ in favour of Mosman Park, there’s no shortage of positives to build on. Heads up, plenty of golf left in the season — and we’re at home next week, ready to bounce back on our own deck.
