Division 5 – Nigel Williams
Venue: MGGC
Opponents Gosnells Golf Club

We finally had our home game advantage needing a half point to secure a finals spot. Things were looking up….. until we saw the forecast.

Everyone on the team was super excited about the opportunity to play our way into a final against the best from the North. The excitement was short lived on Sunday.

After an hour of watching the rain belt down on the golf course, morning field players were walking off the course with it unplayable . It was only a matter of time before the day was called off.

So all teams got 1 point each leaving MGGC on the top of the table and undefeated.

We are all looking forward to a tough battle against the best North Division 5 team, WAGC.

The final will be held at Lake Karrinyup Golf Club this Sunday 27th July. We tee off at 11.30am on the 10th Hole. We would love to see some Melville members down to support the team.

One more game, let’s go Melville.

I would like to thank Dean and Nina King from Cannington Mazda for your continued support of all the pennants teams.

Division 6 – Brad Simms
Venue: Gosnells Golf Club
Opponents: Hartfield CC
Result: 4 – 3 Win

Round 7 of the 2025 Pennant season saw our Division 6 team head to Gosnells Golf Club to face off against Hartfield in what turned out to be a dramatic day — and not just because of the scoreboard.

With torrential rain threatening to wash out the afternoon, it’s a real credit to the team at Gosnells that the course held up so well and all matches were completed. Full credit to them for getting us out there.
And the lads certainly made the most of it, notching up a hard-earned 4–3 victory — a great reward for persistence and resilience in tough conditions.

Jason Stade unfortunate end to his unbeaten run, dropping his first match of the season. But let’s not dwell on the result — Jason’s season has been nothing short of outstanding. His composure and consistency have anchored the team week after week. Massive respect for the campaign he’s put together.

George Huckle made his Division 6 debut, and what a way to announce yourself! Just 14 years old and stepping into the world of competitive matchplay, George grabbed the opportunity with both hands. A dominant 5&3 victory over a seasoned Hartfield opponent was the stuff of dreams. Brilliant performance George — this is just the beginning!

Curt Nicole delivered again with another clinical performance. Calm, composed, and in control from the outset, Curt’s match never looked in doubt. He continues to be a rock in the middle of the lineup and is fast becoming one of the side’s most reliable performers.

Steve Loller found himself in yet another battle that came down to the final hole. He gave it everything in difficult conditions and was right in it until the end. That win is coming — no doubt about it.

Brad Simms found himself behind early again this week but settled things down through the middle stages of the round. It was a tough contest in trying conditions, but he stayed composed and did just enough to secure a crucial point for the team.

Jessy Lee wanted one last chance for a team win this season, so he was really pushing for the game to go ahead. Jessy did his part with another emphatic 5&4 win to add to his growing list.

Dean Marsh stepped in from Division 5 this week and took on Hartfield’s top gun. While the result didn’t go his way, Dean’s role was pivotal — taking on that challenge gave the rest of the lineup breathing room to get the job done. Thanks for jumping in Marshy — great to have you with us!

A fantastic team win and a real morale boost to finish the 2025 campaign. While it wasn’t the season we had hoped for in terms of points on the board, there were plenty of positives to take from it. With a relatively green squad, a lot was learned and valuable experience gained — all of which lays the groundwork for a stronger showing next year.

A big thank you to Melville Glades Golf Club for their continued support of the Division 6 team throughout the season, and a huge thanks to Dean & Nina King from Cannington Mazda for everything they do for the club — your support is truly appreciated.

And finally, this Sunday Division 5 are out to get our club a Pennant. All the very best to the lads for this coming Sunday, We hope plenty of MGGC members can get down there to support their team.
