Special General Meeting – Governance Model

Dear Members,

As you would have read, the Club did not achieve a quorum of 65 voting members for the Special General Meeting on 23 October. This means that the meeting must reconvene on Thursday 30 October at 7.00pm.

Had a quorum been achieved on 23 October, the total number of ballots cast would have been about 170. This would have seen the future direction of the Club being decided by around 17% of the members eligible to vote. I am sure you would agree that this would not have fully reflected the overall views of the membership.

The proposal to the members to change the Club’s Governance Model requires a change to the Constitution. This can only be done through a Special Resolution at a General Meeting. Under the law, a majority of 75% of the members who vote must be achieved to approve the change. This is not a matter requiring a simple majority.

The proposed model has been communicated widely to members over the last twelve months, along with relevant background information. There have been two Members’ Forums during the year and, the Special Resolution was posted on the notice board and the website and, emailed to members at least 28 days prior to the meeting. The Special General meeting is the final opportunity to seek further clarification before voting.

All Ordinary and Life members (including Ordinary 18-35 age groups and 9 Hole members) are eligible to vote. Please do not abrogate your say in the future of the Club by not voting. Either attend the Special General Meeting to vote or, submit an Absentee ballot by attending the Administration office at one of the advertised times this week.

Paying your membership fees gives eligible members the right to vote. Please exercise your right and vote.
