Division 3 – Round 1
Our division 3 ladies got all geared up for their first game of the season and drove through a thunderstorm to Gosnells Golf Club. Unfortunately, the weather lived up to the forecast and by our scheduled 8am tee time it was still pouring with rain and windy, with the occasional lightning flash. The Gosnells Captain thankfully put the safety of all the players first and made a prompt decision to cancel the round.
Division 5 – Round 4
Our division 5 ladies drove in the opposite direction to Royal Fremantle. Disappointingly, Royal Fremantle made the call to commence play! (As hosts, their team was not playing!!!) Failing to follow this directive would mean disqualification for that round. Sitting in second place our ladies, bravely representing MGGC, headed out onto the course with their Cottesloe opponents. They experienced heavy downpours, flooded greens, gusty winds, and hail. They played through these conditions until lightning/thunder threatened and play was suspended. Lunch was provided during this break and then out they went to complete their games. The team all played solo, not wanting their caddies to endure such awful conditions. And in the end…….the game was a draw! Tough day at the office!
Here are the final scores. Captain Anne Ward played number 1 but went down 4/3 to a better swimmer! Julie HJ, fresh from a hiking holiday won easily 6/4. Nina King fought on for a handy draw. Tryphena Mitchell notched up her second win 5/4 (after dealing with some home flooding issues – great team spirit Tryphena). Our valiant Lady Director Cheryl Collings notched up a classy 5/4 win. Christine Orr and Jenny Marsh both took their opponents to the soggy 18th , only going down by 1.
Sincere congratulations to all team members. Thank you for enduring the conditions and representing MGGC so professionally.
