Men’s Division 2 – Paul Oliver
MGGC vs Gosnells GC at Bunbury.

Round 1 we travelled down to Bunbury on a beautiful winter afternoon to take on a Gosnells.

Wins to Martin Wong (1up), Paul Oliver (1up) and Jarryd Treacy earning his first Div 2 win on debut (2up) had us looking at a chance to get over the line.

Unfortunately losses to Dean Marsh, Tavis Whitcher, Andy Gregory and Adam Hoare meant we just went down 4-3. But a great effort from the lads and a positive start to the season.

Huge thanks to Dean King and Cannington Mazda for lending us the mini bus to travel down as a team. Much appreciated.

Next week we are at Nedlands GC, to take on Hartfield.

Men’s Division 5 – Nigel Williams
MGGC vs Mandurah CC at Kwinana.

It was a fresh morning but warmed up and was perfect conditions for golf in time for our 12.20pm tee off. The course was in great condition, and we all found the greens very fast and true.

Thomas Love started the team off with a great 4/3-win, Logan King also had a dominant 6/5- win, Steve Russell, playing number 2, won 4/3.

With the scores tied at 3 wins each, it all came down to myself playing for the last point. Unfortunately, I only managed a half, leaving the match all tied at 3.5 each.

Other players on the day – James McAuliffe, Mac Williams and Jono Hailes – had hard fought losses.

This Sunday, we travel to Hartfield Country Club where our opponent will be Royal Fremantle. If anyone from the club would like to come down to support the team we Tee off at 11.30am. The team would really appreciate the support.

Men’s Division 6 – Brad Simms
MGGC vs Royal Perth GC at Royal Perth

The 2025 Pennant season teed off bright and early as Melville Glades took on Royal Perth at their home course. With a crisp chill in the air, perfect conditions underfoot, and six freshly unveiled holes adding flair to the layout, it was set up for a cracking contest.

Our squad came ready, and the end result didn’t disappoint:

The div 6 team this year has 7 new faces from last year. Debuting those players this year while battling first time nerves is always fun to watch and great signs for the club moving forward.

Connor Foy led us out in Match 1 and, despite it being his debut, took the fight deep before going down in a close and gritty contest. Plenty to like and a great first-up showing.

Kavi Lasrado was locked in a tight one all day but eventually came up just short, A brave effort in a match that could’ve gone either way.

Nick Middleton (debut) delivered the goods with a textbook 4&3 win — and with his son in the group behind, the Middleton family scoreboard was looking sharp.

Jordan Middleton (debut) backed up the family form with a mature 2&1 win of his own. A Middleton double is always good value! I’m sure Sue is sick of hearing about it already.

Brad Simms was the last match on the course. Scores tied on the 18th tee and Brad held his nerve when it counted, grinding out a crucial half to help steady the team total. Clutch stuff. (edited by James McAuliffe)

Jessy Lee brought the fireworks with a commanding 5&4 win — a confident performance that helped secure a valuable result.

Cassidy Steel ran into a future superstar. Sometimes you just tip your hat and move on.

In the end, it was even at 3½ – 3½, a great way to start the season against an home team. Spirits were high, the banter was flowing, and the Melville boys left with plenty to build on.
