At its recent meeting the Board gave approval to start a project of installing limestone blocks on the edge of tee boxes on holes 2, 4, 7, 11, 13 & 16. These tee boxes have been Identified by Dane and myself as the most urgent tees boxes to address. This is a capex budget Item and I thank the Board for its approval.

Last year it was noted at a Course Committee meeting that the turf between the edges of tee boxes and ferrocrete paths had become unduly worn and damaged. The edging blocks will help reduce the wear and tear on the turf and reduce maintenance workloads, allowing the course staff to concentrate on other priorities.

After considerable discussion and research it was settled on using 1000mm X 350mm X 350mm Limestone blocks as an edge between paths and Turf.

These blocks will be dug into the turf creating a nice clean edge running in line with tee boxes. The edging will also improve the aesthetics of the tee boxes.

After these blocks are laid the paths will then be lifted if required to make the step up to tee box between 130mm to 225mm, where possible.

Although this edging was not originally part of the Course Master Plan when the Plan was developed, we did not have 100 plus carts using the course. We now have a much larger volume of traffic than we did in 2008. This is a significant change in circumstances since the Plan was created.

Going forward to protect our tee boxes we will be using these blocks on every hole to create uniformity. The remaining holes will be budgeted in the Club’s 1/3/7 years CAPEX Plan and phased for implementation at the first opportunities.

This project is to start in the next four to eight weeks, while the staff and tradesman are laying blocks some tees will be moved forward for safety reasons.

I thank you in advance for your cooperation on this.

Happy Golfing.
