Dear Members,

The recent resignation of the Captain and Director of Golf has created a vacancy on the Board. As per the Clubs Constitution clause 3.17 this may be filled by the Board as a Casual Vacancy for the remainder of the elected term which would be through until the 2026 AGM.

The Board is seeking Expressions of Interest from members to fill the role of Captain for the remainder of the elected term. To be eligible to be appointed to fill a casual vacancy a member must be an Ordinary, Ordinary Age Group, Ordinary 9-Hole or Life member of the Club, have been a member in these categories for at least 4 consecutive years and be financial at the time of appointment. (Note: While the Special Resolution to reduce the period of eligibility for a Director from 4-years to 2-years was approved by members at the AGM this is not effective until it is approved by the Department and formally incorporated into the Club’s rules.)

Ideally, the Board should contain the relevant blend of expertise in:

  • The interests of members and the Club.
  • Statute law and Constitutional compliance.
  • Financial Management.
  • Corporate Governance.
  • Contractual & Commercial Arrangements.
  • Understanding the Golf industry.
  • Strategic and conceptual thinking.

The general responsibilities for Captain (clause 3.35) are in the Constitution, however candidates should also review the relevant parts of the By-laws that describe the responsibilities of the related committees. A summary of Board responsibilities and desirable skills along with those for the Captain can be found here.

If you have any questions about either role please contact the President, Mark Bonser or General Manager, Matt Espie.

Expressions of interest are requested to be made in writing to the General Manager (gm@melvilleglades.com) by Friday 12th April and should include a summary of the applicant’s relevant skills and background that they feel would make them a good Board member.
