Dear Members,

Your Course Committee have been discussing player habits and responsibilities with regards to repairing pitch marks, divots and bunker raking.

Before we start the club championships, where we all should want to see the course presented in the best possible condition, we thought it was appropriate to remind everyone about course etiquette and your member responsibilities.

We feel that a significant number of members are not meeting their responsibility to the club, and their fellow members, in not repairing pitch marks or some who do are not doing it properly. Similarly members are not filling divots with sand and raking bunkers to an acceptable standard. No member should have to play from a lie made more difficult because someone was not willing or able to make the required repairs to the level required.

The Course Superintendent and his team along with the Course Committee are working hard to provide members with a great golfing experience and too often this is impacted because some of our members don’t do the right thing.

We ask if you see someone in your group not repairing damage during a round please don’t ignore it but fix it and politely explain how it should be done so we all have a chance to play the best course possible and avoid a nasty “rub of the green”.

If everyone fixes one pitch mark on every green, even if you did not hit the green, and repairs a second if you hit the green, the greens will look and play so much better.

When repairing pitch marks please push grass from the back of the pitch mark into the middle then do the sides NEVER put grass that has been ripped out back in the hole it will not regrow. This is true for the fairway as well. Also do not lift/lever the grass and base dirt from the centre of the pitch mark.

When raking bunkers please use two hands – don’t just drag the rake out behind you. Everyone should make sure that once you finish raking that if your ball was to go into that bunker you would be happy playing out of the area that you just raked. If there are other foot prints in a bunker please make an effort to rake them also.

Divots please put sand in your divots and level the sand with your foot even in the rough, there is nothing worst than hitting a great shot and finding it in an old divot that should of been repaired by the last player, this is an unfair penalty .

If we all just think a little bit more about how each and everyone of us can help make our golf course a little bit better for the next group behind, together we can make MGGC a great golfing experience for all.

Consider – if you were hosting a guest at MGGC how would you like their experience to be?

Thank you in advance for the extra effort.

Happy golfing
