MGGC South Red – Matt Thomas

A tough game at Royal Perth this week who are always hard to beat on their own patch.
We walked away with a tied score – 2.5 to 2.5 which we are more than happy with under the circumstances.
Two of our pairings had comfortable wins namely Phil Johnson and Greg Healey – 5 and 4, along with David Owen and Chris Jackson, also 5 and 4.
Two pairs went down and we squared the last game of the day after looking at almost certain defeat – 3 down with 4 to play.
Fortunately Kim Matthews and Alan Thomas nailed the final three holes to ensure we squared the result – great team effort all around.
Off to Royal Fremantle next Monday where we will have to be on our best form to remain on top of the ladder.

Well done boys!!!

MGGC South Black – Simon Hird

Our South Black team were soundly beaten by Royal Perth. The course was in great condition and the wind wasn’t too strong so unfortunately we had no ready made excuses – they were simply better than us. Two of our pairings went down to 4&3 defeats, two lost 2&1 while the other pairing took it to the final green before losing by one hole.
Despite results so far, spirits remain high and if we can beat Royal Fremantle next week we will be right back in the mix.

MGGC Senior Individual Pennants – Andy McDonald

The tides certainly turned at Monday’s Senior Individual Pennants match versus Gosnells GC in Royal Fremantle GC. We had a hard fought 3 1/2 to 1 1/2 win taking us up to 4th position in the table. With our next match at home at Melville Glades it opens up the whole competition for us!
We welcomed Tom Colella to the fold after his eight birdie, 45 points round in Joondalup the previous week. Tom went out first and secured an emphatic 3 and 1 victory to get the ball rolling. Not a bad replacement for our in form two time winner Bruce Lee Steere who was unavailable.
Yours truly playing at number four had a hard fought, squared match after being two down on ten against a 30 year Gosnells Pennants veteran Don McLean. It was nip and tuck for the last eight holes, me winning 13 and 16 and halving the rest.
Pete Waters at three went down two and one in another hard fought match.
Our top two Andy Gregory and Greg Cartwright reversed last week’s result with two fine performances on more familiar terrain winning 4/1 and 2 up respectively. Well done to both.
Many thanks to Tom Colella for taking over the reins while I depart for the Emerald Isle and best of luck to the team in our last two matches.
